Nicholas Glover is a consultant eye surgeon who has performed over 15,000 eye operations in the NHS and private sectors since being appointed as a consultant at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.
Each year he carries out over 1200 surgeries for cataract and retinal problems.
As a fee assured consultant your insurance will fully cover the costs of any treatment or surgery required.
If you are self funding, he will ensure that you are offered the most cost effective treatment.
Mr Glover performs most of his surgery using local anaesthetic as this allows for rapid recovery back to normal activity. For most people vision recovers within a few days of surgery and they are able to return to driving after one week.
Mr Glover's team are able to perform local anaesthetic surgery on many patients who are otherwise deemed as unsuitable due to coexisting medical problems. This includes patients who have head tremor (such as Parkinson's disease ), those who have difficulty following instructions (Dementia, Alzheimer's, and profound hearing loss) and those who have concerns about remaining still during surgery (such as chronic cough, breathing difficulties). This often means that a general anaesthetic can be avoided.
Nicholas carried out more than 200 vitrectomy operations last year at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for both urgent and elective conditions.
As a retinal surgeon his area of expertise includes surgery for floaters, macular holes and epiretinal membranes.
